When you are buying a property, researching the schools around that home is as important as learning about the home itself. Even if you do not have children, school quality has a huge impact on the value of the home. The East Valley is known for its excellent schools, and these are some of the area districts that you will want to look into.
The Kyrene School District serves the entire community of Ahwatukee as well as some of Tempe and Chandler. This A-rated school district has 25 schools, including 19 elementary schools and six middle schools, and serves a total of 18,000 students through the 8th grade.
Kyrene School District has set itself apart with its commitment to education. All schools have test scores that exceed the state’s averages.
In addition, students enrolled in the Kyrene School District have access to a variety of choice programs. These alternative education options help parents capitalize on their children’s strengths while helping with any weaknesses. Dual language programs, college preparatory schooling, gifted education and leadership training are all available through Kyrene. The school district also embraces technology as a learning tool and encourages children to train for real-world technology careers.
The Chandler Unified School District serves 41,000 students through 12th grade, including most of the students who live in Chandler. The district is a school choice district, allowing parents and students to choose the educational learning experiences that will best fit their needs. Students have the option to attend alternative programs such as single-gender classrooms, advanced placement courses, self-contained gifted programs and the International Baccalaureate program.
All schools within the Chandler Unified School District exceed both state and national testing standards. Students are given the opportunity to train for life, college and career, based on their needs and goals. A global and international focus helps prepare kids to live in a world that is growing smaller and smaller each day.
Serving most of Gilbert and some of Chandler and Mesa, the Gilbert Public Schools district has 27 elementary schools, six junior high schools and five high schools. While all of the schools provide excellent education, two have been recognized for their achievements. Playa del Rey has received the A+ School of Excellence distinction two years in a row, while Neely Traditional Academy received the National Blue Ribbon School Award in 2009.
Like other area school districts, Gilbert Public Schools offer alternative education opportunities. Distance Learning Online offers children the chance to take some credits through online education through a distance learning center. The district also has the Gilbert Classical Academy, which takes a classical approach to education. Gilbert’s Accelerated Foreign Language Academy helps teach a high level of competence in a foreign language to create biliterate scholars.
Primarily serving the people of Maricopa, the Maricopa Unified School District has six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. It is a smaller district, but works hard to provide students with a well-rounded education.
The students of Mesa, Arizona, have the privilege of attending Mesa Public Schools. This large district has 57 elementary schools, 11 junior high schools and six high schools. A selection of alternative schools helps meet the varied needs of the area’s learners well.
Among the districts in the East Valley, Mesa has one of the largest selections of alternative schools. Crossroads is one of these, offering smaller class sizes, while East Valley Academy offers flexible hours and a credit recovery program for high school students. Advanced learners may appreciate the Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies, while those with special needs may qualify for services from SHARP School.
Queen Creek Unified School District serves the students of Queen Creek and some of the surrounding communities. The Arizona Department of Education gives the schools of this district an “A” or “B” rating because of their commitment to their students and excellence in education. While the schools are excellent, the district is small, with just four elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high and one high school.
Tempe’s schools are divided into two districts: the Tempe Elementary School District and the Tempe Union High School District. These large districts serve a diverse student body, yet they continue to provide exceptional education.
The majority of schools were rated “A” or “B” by the Arizona Department of Education, and all received at least a “C” grade in the most recent year. On the high school level, students are regularly accepted into national merit programs and receive millions of dollars in scholarships each year. The districts focus on developing a culturally rich community in each classroom.
